A person who is an adult can be described as a human being or any other animal that has attained the full growth.The biological meaning of the term refers to animals that have reached sexual maturity, which makes it capable of reproducing. In the context of humans an adult's term has implications that are based on moral and social concepts. Legal adults are those who has reached the age of maturity and can be considered to be autonomous, self-sufficient as well as responsible. An adult who is legally mature can be referred to as a major. The age for achieving legally adulthood is 18 however, definitions can differ based on the legal rights of the country, and psychological development.

Adulthood refers to the period in the human lifespan when the person is at maturation in both mental and physical development. The typical age for adulthood is the age of 21 or 20. After middle age (starting about 40 years old), comes old age (around the age of 60). There are three major phases of adulthood: the early years of the age of adulthood (18 to mid-30s) and middle adulthood (mid-30s to mid-60s), and late adulthood (mid-60s up to the point of the time of death). Physical maturation has been completed by the time we reach the early years of adulthood (20-40s) however, height and weight might be a little higher. During young adulthood we reach the highest level of physical abilities.
